If you’re someone who wakes up every morning feeling cranky and saying to yourself, “I could’ve sworn that I just put my head on my pillow!”, this is the perfect post for you. If you don’t consider yourself to be a morning person, you’re certainly not alone. But more importantly, just because you feel that way, it doesn’t mean there aren’t certain things you can do to remedy the situation.
Does it sound too good to be true? Check out these tips that may not make you thrilled to get up in the morning, but it will definitely make the whole process so much easier than it has been.
1. Put yourself on a consistent sleep schedule
Something that you will never outgrow is the need for no less than 6-8 hours of sleep. And the reality is, some people are not “morning people” simply because they are sleep deprived. One of the causes of sleep deprivation is not putting yourself on a consistent sleep schedule. That said, if you don’t have a set bedtime, start implementing one. Also, don’t wait until you’re absolutely exhausted before you turn in. According to many health professionals, you need about 15-20 minutes to gently fall asleep. So, if you want eight hours of rest and you get up around 6AM each morning, retire for the evening around 9:30PM.
2. "Lighten up" your window treatments
Something that can really play tricks on you are your window treatments. If your blinds or curtains are dark and shut, it will make your room feel like it’s darker outside than it actually may be. The best way to remedy this is to go with window treatments that are a lighter hue. That way, your body can start to wake up as the sun rises and you won’t feel quite as groggy while it does.
3. Exercise in the AM (rather than PM)

You might rely on a heaping cup of black coffee in the mornings, but here’s a better recommendation. Rather than looking for caffeine to give you a “jolt”, schedule 30 minutes in the morning to do some exercising. It’s one of the most reliable ways to give you a nice dose of energy. Plus, it burns calories, improves concentration, reduces stress and so much more.
4. Take a hot and cold shower

Hot showers traditionally help people to fall asleep. But if you wash up under hot water and then turn the water to cold for about 30 seconds and do this process back and for two minutes or so…oh, you’ll definitely be bright-eyed and bushy tailed after that “exercise”!
