How To Get Motivated When You're In A Slump

"Slumps" happen to everyone--I repeat, slumps happen to everyone. They are not a reflection of you as a person, so don't worry--you aren't stuck here forever. Maybe you're sick of your workout routine, or you haven't written anything "great" in months. Maybe you've been isolating yourself on weekends (but let's be honest, there's nothing wrong with solo movie night!) and want to meet new people. Motivation is achievable, you're just going to have to make a few changes. You can do it!

It can be so hard to get anything done when we don't "feel" like it. We can't always act on how we feel, unless of course you're sick as a dog, in which case-- seriously, rest! But on the days when you feel apprehensive about accomplishing a task, practice taking the action anyway. You'd be surprised by how the simple act of changing your behaviors can change your thinking. And you're going to feel amazing when you see what you're actually capable of!

Get rid of the idea that you can't do something and instead channel your self doubt into a positive mantra. Visualize your past successes--- remember that marathon you completed? Or the friend you helped through a breakup? See--you are totally capable of great things. Remind yourself that slumps are just temporary.

Hang With The Right Crowd

Surrounding yourself with friends whose ambition you admire has a great effect on your own personal drive. Hang with people who are supportive of your dreams, but also can offer constructive criticism (when asked for, of course!) Don't be afraid to pick your highly motivated friend's brains about how they achieve success. The right people will be there to offer a support and friendship through all of your endeavors.

Shake It Up

Try changing something about your routine. Not a morning person? Dare to wake up early. Try it for a week and see how it affects your day. You may secretly be super productive in the morning and have no idea! Over working out? Ditch the gym and try an outdoor activity. You'd be surprised at how changing one or two things about your daily routine can change your perspective.
